Opportunities to raise awareness  What resources would be needed for teachers and students  What support and training needed for teachers and students and what could that look like. Calendar image and story suggestion - each month make one item of digital accessibility a focus, e.g.  What are captions? Where do we need them in education (teacher/student) - content creation and finding learning resources. Why are they important?  What else other than captions (sound and visuals) - videos with just music not good for VI. Transcripts and their benefit for everyone. Think about it, can you hear all the content and can you see all of content? Tools that add captions/collect transcripts  Students do a video - captions are important for many reasons - most people now use captions as everyday. Resources to help turn captions on in various tools, when captions need to be checked and examples. Where this can be reinforced in teaching, added by default, choosing videos, creating videos, ‘I’ve kept the captions on’ - think of when you could use and reinforce this.

TO ADD: Strategy notes

UK DISABILITY STRATEGY The shift to digital has presented its own challenges because the accessibility of services are variable (Disability Unit, 2021; p.90). The government’s UK Disability Strategy (Disability Unit et al, 2021) points out that there is a long term challenge of capability to create services and content that is accessible to everyone (p.91). There is a high level of demand for people with the skills to produce accessible digital content from within both the public and private sectors, creating a skills shortage. This has been dubbed the ‘Accessible Technology Skills Gap’ (Disability Unit, 2021; p.91). P.91 copy the creating a profession text Making digital content accessible requires making the content clear and simple enough that most people can use it without needing to adapt it, and support those who need to adapt it, including those who use assistive technology and screen readers (Disability Unit, 2021; p.90). Phenomenology text draft

This exploratory research concerns itself with the experiences of school teachers collaboratively planning and delivering digital accessibility awareness education. The aim is to offer some insight into the types of support teachers might need in their everyday practice if this topic were to be added to the curriculum. Phenomenology is an approach that takes fully into account complex multiple realities and the social construction of reality and has proved popular in the social sciences (Creswell, 2013; Denscombe, 1998), useful for research in education and wanting to understand the thinking of teachers and pupils (Crotty, 1998; Van Manen, 1990; Denscombe, 1998; Tesch, 1988) and is also appropriate to explore a single concept or idea such as the idea of professional growth (Creswell, 2013). It captures the essence of human experience (Heidegger, 1962) and the lived experience of human beings in the life world (Husserl, 1970) such as that of teachers. Phenomenology has several schools o...

Silverman, D., 2004. Theory, method and practice  Sue Wilkinson in Silverman (2004) Focus groups: Prior to the late 1970s focus group research was mainly used in market research but has since become popular in social science (Wilkinson, 2004; p.177) Focus group methodology is, at first sight, deceptively simple. It is a way of collecting qualitative data, which essentially involves engaging a small number of people in an informal group discussion (or discussions), ‘focused’ around a particular topic or set of issues. The informal group discussion is usually based on a series of questions (the focus group schedule), and the researcher generally acts as a ‘moderator’ for the focus group: posing questions, keeping the discussion flowing and enabling group members to participate fully (Wilkinson, 2004;  p.178). Although focus groups are sometimes referred to as ‘group interviews’, the moderator does not ask questions of each focus group participant in turn, but rather, facilitates...
