My name is Brenda M. Soto, and I am a doctoral student at National University. I am conducting a research study to explore the perspectives of experts about accessibility strategies to address accessibility in online learning. I am recruiting individuals who have one of the following roles and who meet all of these criteria:
INSTRUCTIONAL DESIGNERS
1. You live in North America (the United States or its territories, Canada, and Mexico).
2. You are fluent in English.
3. You have at least five years of experience in online course development in higher education, corporate, government, or military.
4. You hold a master’s degree in instructional design, instructional systems technology, e-learning, learning design, educational technology, or a post-graduate certification in any of these programs.
5. You have earned some form of accessibility certification or training provided by a school, employer, or professional development organization.
6. You have received training in Quality MattersTM certification courses or workshops.
ACCESSIBILITY EXPERTS
1. You live in North America (the United States or its territories, Canada, and Mexico).
2. You are fluent in English.
3. You have at least five years of experience in online settings (online learning, web design or development).
4. You are or have been an accessibility educator, developer, tester, or remediator.
5. You have earned an International Association of Accessibility Professionals (IAAP) certification as a Certified Professional in Accessibility Core Competencies (CPACC), Web Accessibility Specialist (WAS), or Accessible Document Specialist (ADS).
If you decide to participate in this study, you will be asked to do the following activities:
1. Review and read short literature about the R2D2/C3PO instructional design model (10-15 minutes)
2. Participate in an individual online interview over Zoom for 1 hour.
3. Review the interview transcript via email for 10-15 minutes.
4. Complete a model-enhancement questionnaire online for 15-20 minutes.
5. Participate in a focus group via Zoom for 1 hour.
6. Review the focus group transcript via email for 10-15 minutes.
During these activities, you will be asked questions about:
• Your geographical location, role, and experience in creating accessible content for online learning.
• Your academic or certification possessions to participate in the study.
• If you experience any disability (optional)
• Experience to provide accessibility strategies to make online learning content and experiences accessible for learners with disabilities.
• Your feedback and input to add accessibility strategies to each of the R2D2/C3PO instructional design model components.
Participants in this study will receive a $25 Amazon gift card via email after completing the interview and model-enhancement questionnaire.
