Lit review sequence

 Sections:

  • Background and context (set the scene/ rationale)
  • Social model of disability
  • The legal context for digital accessibility
  • Conceptual perspectives for defining digital accessibility 
  • The problem- the lack of accessible content causing barriers - the wider lack of knowledge AND need for teaching about DA awareness (social responsibility and for social model to work)

  • The teaching of digital accessibility 
  • Not formally on the curriculum 
  • Where is digital accessibility currently taught/how (uni and workplace) - then the gaps of knowledge prior to uni and the workplace - yet all are using and creating digital content already. Best approach found was to integrate it across the curriculum and reinforce - needs to be taught earlier in schools and then built upon - no papers in school apart from 2
  • The need for the primary education context and why upper KS2 - establishing the earliest opportunity to introduce and explore the topic to then build upon
  • Cross reference with Universal design taught in schools-and AT?

  • Existing teacher knowledge for digital accessibility awareness education 
  • PCK as a conceptual framework of inquiry
  • Teacher knowledge for teaching DA to students overview
    • Lack of pedagogical resources, teaching materials and support for teaching DA – (perception issues) and keeping it simple
    • Teachers as hero model – not sustainable - more to be done for wider adoption of the basics
    • Technology ped content knowledge (TPACK)
  • Teacher knowledge of DA in own practice
    • UDL papers and inclusion knowledge
  • Conclude the need for generic materials for beginners to lay a foundation of awareness and the need to address this within the classroom practice and materials context.
  • Also why study needs to be from the teachers perspective

  • Informing an educational intervention at upper Key Stage 2
  • Identifying the learning objectives for teaching DA (multidisciplinary)
  • Types of Learning activities/topics in class under the learning objectives that would or wouldn’t work at beginners level 
  • Key methodologies used in studies
