VocTech ideas

Digital Accessibility awareness is not taught at any level of education yet our digital society is inaccessible to many people.

To be socially responsible, and like other subjects like online safety and data protection, we need to be teaching our next generation who enter the workplace how to be inclusive in our digital society.

There are many everyday principles and skills for digital accessibility awareness that can be learned and applied by anyone, no matter what IT skills level, yet in this area the only focus is within the more technical and specialist discipline of web design. Creating accessible documents, presentations, video, audio and social media content is left behind and often does not get picked up until later in the workplace or when an organisation gets a complaint, yet there are many very simple things that people can do.

Our education system does not yet serve these vital educational vocational skills, yet in FE we are meant to prepare people for the 21st century workplace.

Apprenticeship education works right at the heart of vocational skills for the workplace.
