Conclusion assignment 3

This study offers an in-depth exploration of teaching digital accessibility awareness from the perspective and viewpoint of teachers, something under-investigated in current literature, but more specifically in the primary school context, where no studies currently exist. It also offers the additional dimension and focus on student learning in the classroom to drive teachers’ pedagogical knowledge development and lesson materials for digital accessibility awareness. Lesson study offers the ideal vehicle to situate the research directly within the classroom context, as well as gain new theoretical insight from a socially constructed approach to create new pedagogical knowledge, especially as a co-production between a community of teachers and the researcher. This is an innovative approach against the backdrop of the current literature that is mainly comprised of singular and much smaller individual reflective accounts. Findings and conclusions from this research have the potential to invite further investigation within the school teaching context to help establish digital accessibility awareness education earlier in the lifelong learning journey. It also offers opportunities to contribute to research within the discipline of teachers’ professional development towards inclusive education and digital practices.
