The next generation - poster idea

A response and my resilience and determination to educate and share knowledge after my work being described as ‘the Helen Wilson accessibility show’.

My hard work has been described as a conflict of interest with my job, accessibility isn’t my job as a web designer and developer, presenting described as self promotion, and me wanting to learn outside work time by joining communities of practice and making contacts on LinkedIn described as against my workplace code of conduct.

None of which are true having checked with HR, but my line manager thinks so. So, if they don’t want my knowledge and dedication I will focus my energy, efforts and passion elsewhere.

Creating a model for education and the curriculum, back to my happy place within the educational community:

CreateABLE 360??? is a starting point for digital inclusion that everyone can refer to and adopt.

 1

Anyone who creates anything on a computer can follow these simple tips to help make content more inclusive for everyone.

2
Add headings to documents using the in-built heading styles such as Heading 1, Heading 2 and Heading 3.

3
Use strong colour contrast between text and background and don’t just rely on colour alone to identify information

4
Add meaningful alt text to images to offer a good descriptive alternative if the image can’t be seen

5
Avoid naming your links click here or copying the full address and instead title them to clearly describe where they are going.

6
Think about your audience and use appropriate language avoiding jargon or complex language

7
Tables need to have a header row and avoid merged cells or splitting cells within the table.

8
Always add captions to your videos. If you don’t have narration or sound then always provide a written transcript alternative.

9
Podcasts need an alternative written transcript for those who are unable to hear or access the sound

10
Always check your reading order is logical on presentations and make sure your presentation slides have titles

11
Always use the in-built accessibility checkers to identify and address any accessibility issues

12
Use Camel Case on hashtags by adding a capital letter at the start of each word use #CamelCase instead of #camelcase

Now just imagine this as an infographic poster in every school, educational establishment and workplace, that’s my aim.

This idea needs work, but to respect the fact that my own workplace no longer want my proper name name out there on this due to what they feel would be a conflict of interest (they no longer want me to go off and promote digital inclusion) as I have done too much of it with SCULPT under my name, anymore work I do will be dedicated to my parents under a pseudonym of their combined birth names. It means I can explore ideas, research and work without affecting their promotion of SCULPT.

The ‘Helen Wilson accessibility show’ as they describe it will no longer be in the public domain.

My new writing name:

‘George’ Davies (turned to Georgie so not to be confused with George Rhodes)

Eileen ‘Haynes’

This keeps work and personal completely separate. Let the new journey begin.

Lets back this up academically, PHD????
